Cattle Workshop
Half day workshop with vet Dr Enoch Bergman covering preparing heifers & bulls for joining, improving breeding outcomes through better bull management, bovine herpesvirus vaccination, potential impacts of early weaning, Body Condition Scoring (BCS) cattle and BVD serology.

About the Event
This workshop comes on the back of ASHEEP landing three new producer demonstration site projects focused on benefiting cattle producers, funded by Meat & Livestock Australia. We're launching the projects with a half day workshop with cattle vet Dr Enoch Bergman (Swans Veterinary Services), who will cover off what the projects involve, before taking us through some of the key production areas in focus.
Our thanks to Andrew Kuss for hosting this workshop at his cattle yards located at Allegria Park, 214 Cook Rd, Myrup. The yards are visible from the road and there is a sign "Allegria Park" at the gate. Please bring a chair.
8:30AM Start
Presentation & discussion with Dr Enoch Bergman
- Preparing heifers & bulls for joining
- Improving breeding outcomes through better bull management
- Bovine herpesvirus vaccination
- Potential impacts and benefits of earlier weaning
- Body Condition Scoring cattle (with cattle to demonstrate technique in yards)
- Understanding the risk of BVD to your herd and how to use BVD serology
11:30AM - Workshop sessions end, followed by lunch & networking
BIOSECURITY
Please observe farm biosecurity and arrive in clean boots & clothes.
WHAT TO BRING
Wet weather gear / hat / sunscreen, we go rain or shine.
SAFETY
We are visiting a working farm which comes with a range of hazards. Please stay as a group and observe instructions given to you. Stay away from moving machinery or vehicles, look out for slips / trips, keep a safe distance from any livestock we may encounter (if you are given the opportunity to handle stock during condition scoring please follow ASHEEP’s livestock handling safe work procedures available to download here and take instruction given to you by the farm host / workshop coordinator). Avoid driving on paddocks where possible. When you are driving on farm tracks please drive cautiously and avoid hazards such as potholes, deep water, and slippery areas.
Personal Accessibility
Please note that this event will visits to paddocks / yards that include uneven / soft / rough terrain. There are also steps up to the portable toilet we are using.
