About the Event

All farmers and those in the agricultural industry are welcome to join ASHEEP at our annual Cattle Field Day. Join us as we tour around farms and hear from expert speakers. Snacks, lunch and dinner will be provided. We’ll wrap up with dinner, beers and a bonfire at Wes & Fran Graham’s.

Field Day Stops & Discussions

10:00AM - Meet at Esperance Bay Yacht Club carpark to travel via bus 

10:20AM - Rotational grazing - Peter Hough - 1257 South Coast Highway (Loc 715, John Sharpe’s farm).

·  Cattle market update, Gerald Wetherall (Westcoast Wool & Livestock)

·  Growing more grass, Theo Oorschot (Esperance Rural Supplies)

We’ll then head to Wes & Fran Graham’s ("St George" 2902 South Coast Highway) where people can leave cars & join the bus / carpool, before we head west.

1:00PM - Crossbred cattle - Matt Bell - 1715 Coxall Rd

·  Virtual fencing & exclusion fencing, Graeme Mulligan & Murray Green (Gallagher)

·  Load preparation & eNVD App, John Mitchell (Esperance Livestock Transport)

3:00PM - Wagyu stud embryo transfer in action - Dr Matt Carrik (Bos Vet & Rural) – Fletcher’s Farm Springdale Rd

·  ASHEEP MLA Producer Demonstration Site Updates, Dr Enoch Bergman (Swans Veterinary Services), including BVDV & Bovine Herpes Virus vaccine discussion with Ben Fletcher (Zoetis)

5:30PM – Dinner, beers & a bonfire at Wes & Fran Graham’s.

7:00PM – Bus returns to Esperance

BIOSECURITY

Please observe farm biosecurity and arrive in clean boots & clothes.

If you need to travel via car please make sure it is clean to avoid spread of weeds, pests and disease.

WHAT TO BRING

Wet weather gear / hat / sunscreen, we go rain or shine.

SAFETY

We are visiting working farms which include a range of hazards. Please stay as a group and observe instructions given to you. Stay away from moving machinery or vehicles, look out for slips / trips, keep a safe distance from any livestock we may encounter (if you are given the opportunity to handle stock please follow ASHEEP’s livestock handling safe work procedures available to download here and take instruction given to you by the farm host / field day Chair). Avoid driving on paddocks where possible. When you are driving on farm tracks please drive cautiously and avoid hazards such as potholes, deep water, and slippery areas.

Personal Accessibility

Please note that this event will visit paddocks and yards that include uneven / soft / rough terrain. We plan to have a portable toilet available, but there are several steps to access it. If you have accessibility requirements and need something for you to safely attend the event, please call ASHEEP on the number below and we will endeavour to find a solution.
